OPUS ONE

Opus One is a prestigious Napa Valley winery born from a visionary partnership between two wine legends: Robert Mondavi of Napa Valley and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux  . Their collaboration began in the 1970s and culminated in the first vintage in 1979, with the joint venture officially launching in 1980. Originally called “NapaMedoc,” the project was renamed Opus One by 1982, symbolizing the creation of a singular masterpiece.

Nestled in Oakville within Napa Valley’s AVA, Opus One produces just two wines: the flagship Opus One, a Bordeaux-style blend predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec; and its second label Overture, made from lots that don’t meet the principal wine’s quality threshold.

Opus One embodies an ideal marriage of Old World finesse and New World innovation. Each vintage is crafted to reflect a harmonious balance of power, structure, and elegance—often showcasing dark fruit, violet, cedar, herbal spice, fine-grained tannins, and a polished texture with a long finish.

Over time, Opus One has become not only one of Napa Valley’s most iconic and expensive wines—but also a symbol of global vinous excellence.
