MOORES HILL

Moores Hill Estate is a boutique, family-operated winery nestled in the Tamar Valley of northern Tasmania, approximately 40 km (30 minutes) from Launceston. Founded in 1997 with an initial planting of Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, the vineyard is planted on a northeast-facing ridge about 120 m above sea level. Its elevation, drainage, and cool maritime climate—5 km from the Tamar River and 30 km from Bass Strait—make it ideal for slow, even ripening of cool-climate varieties.

Moores Hill produces a diverse portfolio, including Sparkling, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and small volumes of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The winery is particularly renowned for its Riesling, which frequently wins trophies and medals for its expressive aromatics, crisp acidity, and longevity.

The winemaking philosophy revolves around small-batch, precision craft—hand-harvested and selectively picked to capture the varietal character and terroir expression. Chardonnay is barrel-fermented in French oak, while Pinot Noir is cold-soaked, open-fermented, then aged in barrel with a split between reserve and estate classification.

Moores Hill stands out in Tasmania’s wine scene as a pioneer of sustainable innovation, noted for elegant yet approachable cool-climate wines—particularly Riesling and Pinot Gris/Noir.
