The 2025 Meadowbank Riesling is a striking cool-climate Tasmanian Riesling from the Derwent Valley, continuing the remarkable form that has made Meadowbank one of Australia’s benchmark Riesling producers. Crafted by Peter Dredge from two estate parcels — Maccies Block and Top Wool Shed — the wine combines stainless steel fermentation for purity with a portion fermented in old French oak for texture and depth. A small amount of residual sugar balances the naturally piercing acidity, creating a Riesling that is both vibrant and beautifully composed. The nose is intensely lifted and aromatic, revealing lime zest, lemon juice and green apple layered with white peach, passionfruit and citrus blossom. There is a distinctive mineral and saline edge, alongside subtle hints of wet stone and floral perfume that give the wine exceptional freshness and detail.
On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied with electric natural acidity and remarkable precision. Citrus and orchard fruit flavours are supported by a gentle textural richness from lees ageing and old oak fermentation, while the slight touch of residual sugar softens the acid line without ever making the wine feel sweet. The result is a Riesling that is simultaneously zesty, mouthwatering and beautifully balanced, finishing long, mineral and intensely refreshing.
