LIGNIER-MICHELOT
Domaine Lignier-Michelot is a family-owned winery located in Morey-Saint-Denis, at the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits region. The Lignier family has deep roots in the village, with the domaine established for three generations. Currently managed by Virgile Lignier, who took over in 2000, the estate has transitioned from selling grapes to producing and bottling their own wines.
The domaine cultivates approximately 12.5 hectares (30.88 acres) of vineyards, primarily planted with Pinot Noir and a small portion of Chardonnay. Their holdings include parcels in prestigious appellations such as Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, and Gevrey-Chambertin. Notably, they have vines in five Grand Cru vineyards, including Clos Saint-Denis and Clos de la Roche.
Viticultural practices at Domaine Lignier-Michelot are sustainable, with a focus on respecting the lunar calendar and maintaining high trellising. In the cellar, Virgile employs ambient yeast fermentation, incorporates some whole-cluster fermentation, utilizes 20-30% new oak barrels, and practices minimal filtration and no fining.
The wines from Domaine Lignier-Michelot are known for their depth, elegance, and expression of terroir, reflecting the unique characteristics of each vineyard site.
