DOMAINE LAFARGE VIAL
Domaine Lafarge Vial is one of Beaujolais’ most respected boutique estates, founded by Frédéric Lafarge and Chantal Lafarge of the legendary Domaine Michel Lafarge in Volnay, Burgundy. Established in 2014, the project combines the Lafarge family's deep Burgundian winemaking heritage with a passion for showcasing the exceptional terroirs of Beaujolais.
Located in the southern part of Burgundy, the estate farms old-vine vineyards across some of Beaujolais’ most distinguished crus, including Fleurie, Chiroubles, and Côte de Brouilly. These sites feature granite-rich soils, elevated vineyard positions, and ideal growing conditions for producing Gamay of remarkable finesse, purity, and complexity.
Domaine Lafarge Vial is particularly renowned for its elegant and terroir-driven Gamay wines. The wines typically display aromas of red cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, violet, rose petal, and subtle spice. On the palate, they combine freshness, silky texture, vibrant acidity, and mineral precision, reflecting a style that emphasises balance and vineyard expression rather than power.
The estate follows certified organic and biodynamic farming practices, reflecting the philosophy long championed by the Lafarge family in Burgundy. Vineyard work focuses on biodiversity, soil health, and low yields, while winemaking is carried out with minimal intervention to preserve the authenticity of each site.
Rather than producing fruit-forward styles often associated with Beaujolais, Domaine Lafarge Vial crafts wines with structure, elegance, and ageing potential, drawing comparisons to fine Burgundy while maintaining the distinctive identity of Gamay and Beaujolais terroir.
Today, Domaine Lafarge Vial is regarded as one of the leading producers in Beaujolais, highly sought after by collectors, sommeliers, and wine enthusiasts seeking refined and authentic expressions of the region.
