DOMAINE DES BAUMARD
Domaine des Baumard is a historic and highly regarded wine estate located in Rochefort-sur-Loire, in the heart of France’s Loire Valley. The Baumard family has been cultivating vines in this region since 1634, but the estate gained prominence under Jean Baumard in the mid-20th century. Jean, a professor of viticulture and oenology, revitalized the domaine by acquiring prime vineyard sites, including holdings in Savennières and Quarts de Chaume, and implementing innovative winemaking techniques.
Domaine des Baumard is renowned for its exceptional Chenin Blanc wines, crafted in various styles ranging from dry to sweet and sparkling. Notable offerings include the dry Savennières from vineyards like Clos du Papillon and Clos St. Yves, the opulent Quarts de Chaume, and the sweet Coteaux du Layon. The estate also produces Crémant de Loire, a sparkling wine that showcases the versatility of Chenin Blanc.
The domaine’s wines are celebrated for their purity, balance, and longevity, reflecting the meticulous care taken in both the vineyard and the cellar. Fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts, and the wines are aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve their fresh, vibrant character.
