DOMAINE DE TRIENNES

Domaine de Triennes is a Provence estate with an interesting Burgundian connection—it was founded in 1989 by Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac and Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, together with their friend Michel Macaux. Drawn by the region’s sunshine, limestone soils, and lower land prices, they set up Triennes in the hills of the Var, north-east of Marseille, to make wines with Provence’s character but with Burgundian attention to detail.

The estate covers around 46 hectares planted mainly to Mediterranean varieties like Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault, Viognier, and Chardonnay. The altitude (about 400 meters above sea level) and cool nights help retain acidity, giving the wines freshness despite the sunny climate.

Farming is certified organic, with a focus on biodiversity and minimal intervention. Harvesting is done at optimal ripeness to preserve balance. In the cellar, the approach is gentle: stainless steel for aromatic whites and rosés, and older oak barrels for some reds, ensuring that fruit and terroir are at the forefront rather than heavy oak influence.
