CHATEAU CALON SEGUR
Château Calon Ségur is a distinguished winery located in the Saint-Estèphe appellation of Bordeaux, France. Renowned for its rich history and exceptional wines, it holds a prestigious position as a Third Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification.
The estate’s origins trace back to at least 1147, making it one of the oldest in Saint-Estèphe. The name “Calon” refers to small boats used in the Middle Ages to transport timber across the Gironde estuary, highlighting the area’s historical significance. In the 18th century, the estate was owned by Nicolas-Alexandre, Marquis de Ségur, who also possessed Château Lafite and Château Latour. Despite his extensive holdings, he famously stated, “I make my wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon,” a sentiment immortalized by the heart emblem on the wine’s label.
Château Calon Ségur is celebrated for producing wines that embody both power and elegance. The wines are known for their deep color, complex aromas, and robust structure, often exhibiting notes of cassis, tobacco, and earthy undertones.
Château Calon Ségur continues to be a symbol of tradition and excellence in Bordeaux winemaking, capturing the hearts of wine enthusiasts worldwide with its commitment to quality and its storied legacy.
