The 2022 Benjamin et David Duclaux Côte-Rôtie La Germine is sourced from steep terraced vineyards in the southern sector of Côte-Rôtie around Tupin-et-Semons. A blend of 97% Syrah and 3% Viognier, it comes from gneiss-rich soils and is crafted by brothers Benjamin and David Duclaux, whose elegant, terroir-driven wines have established the estate as one of the Northern Rhône’s most respected producers. The wine is aged for around 20 months in oak, bringing added depth while preserving freshness and site expression.
The nose reveals blackberry, dark cherry and plum layered with violet, cracked pepper, crushed stone and subtle smoky spice. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is beautifully balanced, combining concentrated dark fruit with silky tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, savoury finish. Jeb Dunnuck awarded the wine 93 points, praising its richness, structure and ageing potential, while Wine Spectator also scored it 94 points for its purity, freshness and polished texture.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A classic Côte-Rôtie that beautifully balances perfume, elegance and power. The combination of dark fruit, floral lift and fine tannins makes it a superb match for roast lamb, duck, venison, beef fillet and mushroom dishes. Approachable with a decant today, but it will continue to evolve gracefully through 2035–2040.
