MORGON
Morgon is one of the most important crus of the Beaujolais wine region in eastern France, known for producing some of the most structured and age-worthy expressions of Gamay. It is widely regarded as one of the most serious and complex appellations within Beaujolais.
The region benefits from a semi-continental climate and distinctive soils, particularly decomposed schist and volcanic rock, which contribute to wines with depth, minerality, and structure. Morgon’s vineyards are spread across several notable climats, including the famous Côte du Py, known for producing the most powerful and long-lived wines.
Morgon wines are made exclusively from Gamay and are typically richer and more full-bodied than other Beaujolais crus. They often display flavors of dark cherry, plum, and earthy notes, sometimes developing a Burgundian character with age—a phenomenon known as “morgonner,” where the wine takes on more Pinot Noir-like complexity over time.
