The 2022 L’Arlésienne Morgon Corcelette is a beautifully serious and finely structured Cru Beaujolais from Benoît Moreau’s exciting Beaujolais project. Better known for his work at the legendary Domaine Bernard Moreau in Chassagne-Montrachet, Benoît began producing Gamay under the L’Arlésienne label from biodynamically farmed vineyards in Morgon, Chiroubles and Beaujolais-Villages. Corcelette comes from high-altitude old-vine parcels on Morgon’s northern slopes near the border with Chiroubles, planted on sandy granite soils that give the wine remarkable perfume and tension. The 2022 vintage saw partial whole-cluster fermentation and élevage in large 500L oak barrels, producing a more layered and structured expression than many classic Morgons.
The nose reveals black cherry, wild strawberry and crushed raspberry layered alongside violet, iodine, cracked pepper and subtle earthy spice, giving the wine impressive aromatic lift and complexity. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with vibrant acidity, powdery tannins and a tightly wound mineral core. Layers of dark red fruit, savoury herbs and saline freshness unfold with remarkable energy and precision, finishing long, structured and beautifully persistent with excellent ageing potential. Critics have praised the wine’s "vertical" structure, saline character and grippy, sapid finish, while noting its concentration and tension beneath the wine’s elegant frame.
