The Champagne Laherte Frères Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature NV (Base 2024) is a distinctive grower Champagne made from Pinot Noir and Meunier grown across the family’s vineyards around Chavot and the southern slopes of Épernay. The chalk, flint and schist-rich soils give the wine a pronounced mineral and saline character, while the red varieties bring extra texture and depth. The Base 2024 shows red apple, pear and raspberry alongside lemon zest, dried flowers, subtle spice and fine brioche notes. Its zero-dosage style keeps the expression dry, focused and energetic.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and finely textured, with lively acidity, delicate mousse and layers of red and orchard fruit. Raspberry, red apple and pear are complemented by citrus, dried flowers and gentle pastry and spice notes, while a fine chalky and saline character provides tension and length. Fermentation in small barrels and foudres adds subtle savoury and lees-derived complexity, while time on fine lees gives the wine a rounded texture without sacrificing freshness. The finish is bone-dry, clean and persistent, with lingering red fruit, citrus, mineral and savoury notes.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Champagne drinkers who enjoy dry, structured Blanc de Noirs with savoury depth and mineral freshness. The Base 2024 is approachable now but has enough acidity and texture to develop additional brioche, nutty and earthy complexity with bottle age. Best enjoyed over the next 5–8 years. Serve chilled with oysters, tuna crudo, smoked trout, roast quail, seared scallops, charcuterie, or aged Comté and other hard cheeses.
