The 2025 Two Tonne Tasmania EST Pinot Noir is Ricky Evans’ exploration of Tasmania’s rugged East Coast, sourced from a single vineyard on the Freycinet Coast near Cranbrook. Produced under the Two Tonne Tasmania label, the wine highlights the region’s warm, dry climate and volcanic-influenced soils, delivering a more savoury and mineral expression of Pinot Noir than its Tamar Valley counterparts. Fermented as whole berries with gentle extraction, the 2025 release is a lighter, more ethereal expression of the vineyard while retaining its distinctive regional character.
The nose shows dark cherry, red berries, wild herbs and floral notes, layered with flinty, graphite-like minerality. Silky and finely structured, the palate combines bright fruit with savoury complexity and the hallmark soil-driven tannins that define the East Coast style. Fresh, elegant and beautifully balanced, it finishes long and mineral with impressive finesse.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A brilliant Pinot for lovers of the more savoury, Burgundian end of the spectrum. Its combination of bright fruit, mineral tension and fine tannins makes it a superb match for duck, roast pork, grilled salmon and mushroom dishes. Enjoy now with a light chill or cellar through 2032–2035 as it develops additional complexity.
