The 2024 Spinifex Clairette is a rare single-varietal bottling from Peter Schell, one of the Barossa’s most innovative winemakers. Sourced from a single elevated vineyard in Rowland Flat, the Clairette vines ripen slowly, building flavour while naturally retaining fresh acidity. Hand-picked and fermented in tank, the wine spent 10 months on lees with no malolactic fermentation, preserving its vibrant character and textural appeal.
The nose shows lemon zest, green apple, pear and fresh herbs, with subtle citrus blossom notes. Bright and energetic on the palate, it combines crisp acidity with gentle texture and a touch of phenolic grip from a short skin contact. Citrus and stone fruit flavours carry through a long, refreshing finish, making it one of Australia's most distinctive white wines.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A fascinating alternative to more familiar white varieties and a great introduction to Clairette. Fresh, textural and highly food-friendly, it pairs beautifully with grilled fish, oysters, prawns, roast chicken and Mediterranean dishes. Drink now and over the next 3–5 years while its freshness and vibrant fruit are at their peak.
