The 2024 Ktima Matsa Savatiano PGI is a beautifully refined expression of Greece’s signature white grape, produced by the historic Ktima Matsa estate in Attica. Established in 1878 and now run by Roxane Matsa, the organically certified estate has played a key role in elevating Savatiano beyond its traditional reputation, crafting wines that are fresh, elegant and distinctly terroir-driven. The wine is made from 100% Savatiano grown in organically farmed vineyards in Pallini and fermented in stainless steel before several months of ageing on fine lees to enhance texture and complexity.
The nose is fresh and expressive, revealing aromas of white peach, pear, citrus blossom and lemon zest, complemented by subtle herbal notes and a gentle mineral character. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with lively acidity, a creamy texture from lees ageing and flavours of stone fruit, citrus and delicate botanical notes. The finish is clean, balanced and persistent, showcasing the variety’s freshness and understated elegance.
Ben's Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is one of the finest examples of modern Savatiano and an excellent introduction to premium Greek white wine. Compared to Assyrtiko, it is softer and more rounded, while offering greater texture than many everyday Mediterranean whites. Ktima Matsa has become one of Greece's benchmark producers, and the 2024 vintage highlights the purity, freshness and food-friendly character that make Savatiano so enjoyable. Drink now or over the next 3–5 years. Perfect with grilled seafood, calamari, roast chicken, Mediterranean salads, feta dishes and light Greek cuisine.
