The 2024 Elanto Vineyard Ironstone Pinot Noir is a powerful single-plot expression from the Mornington Peninsula. Ironstone’s shallow, dark-red soils retain less moisture and naturally produce the vineyard’s lowest yields, resulting in a deeply concentrated wine. Aromas of dark cherry, pomegranate and blackberry are layered with iron, freshly turned earth, wormwood, wintergreen and savoury spice.
The palate is fuller and more structured than Elanto’s Basalt Pinot Noir, delivering concentrated dark fruit, earthy complexity and a distinctive ferrous mineral character. Supple yet firm tannins and bright acidity provide impressive shape and energy, carrying the wine towards a long, layered and savoury finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, Ironstone is an exciting choice for collectors seeking serious, site-driven Australian Pinot Noir. It has the concentration and structure to develop beautifully in the cellar, although a generous decant will make it approachable now. Enjoy with roast duck, venison, quail, mushroom dishes, truffle risotto or herb-crusted lamb.
