The 2023 Lethbridge Suma Park Pinot Noir is sourced from the Suma Park vineyard at Marcus Hill on the Bellarine Peninsula, where MV6 Pinot Noir vines planted in 1999 grow on thin red clay and buckshot over limestone. Crafted by Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis, the wine is hand-picked, wild fermented with around 50% whole bunches and matured in 50% new French oak, producing a refined expression of this cool maritime site.
The nose shows bright red cherry, raspberry, rose petal and lavender, with hints of spice and mineral complexity. Elegant and finely structured, the palate delivers pure red fruit, crunchy tannins and vibrant acidity, finishing long, fresh and persistent. Philip Rich awarded the wine 96+ points, while James Suckling scored it 96 points, praising its purity, perfume and balance.
Ben’s Recommendation:
One of the standout Pinot Noirs from Lethbridge’s exceptional 2023 single-vineyard range. Perfumed, precise and beautifully balanced, it pairs wonderfully with duck, roast pork, game birds, mushroom dishes and grilled salmon. Enjoy now with a short decant or cellar confidently through 2036 for added complexity.
