The 2023 Domaine Thierry et Pascale Matrot Meursault Premier Cru Blagny is a distinctive Chardonnay from one of the higher slopes of Meursault, close to Puligny-Montrachet. Grown on shallow, stony limestone soils at around 350 metres, it shows ripe yellow fruit, citrus and lime blossom with flint, chalk and subtle floral notes.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and finely textured with lively acidity, ripe citrus and yellow fruit supported by pronounced limestone minerality. The wine spends 12 months on lees in seasoned oak barrels followed by six months in stainless steel, adding depth without obscuring its freshness. The finish is long, saline and precise.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Chardonnay drinkers who enjoy mineral-driven white Burgundy with texture, bright acidity and restrained oak. It will benefit from further bottle development, with a suggested drinking window around 2028–2033. Pair with grilled snapper, trout with beurre blanc, roast chicken, scallops or mushroom dishes.
