The 2023 Albert Mann Pinot Gris Furstentum Grand Cru comes from one of Alsace’s most celebrated Grand Cru vineyards, a limestone-rich hillside in Kientzheim renowned for producing wines of power, precision and longevity. Farmed biodynamically by the Barthelmé family, the Furstentum vineyard consistently delivers some of the estate’s most profound wines, combining the richness of Pinot Gris with remarkable freshness and mineral definition.
The nose is intensely aromatic, revealing ripe pear, quince, white peach and honeyed citrus alongside hints of spice, smoke and wet stone. The palate is concentrated and layered, with impressive texture balanced by vibrant acidity and a distinctive saline mineral edge. Rich without heaviness, it finishes long and precise, showcasing the elegance and ageing potential of this exceptional Grand Cru site. James Suckling awarded the wine 97 points, praising its energy, complexity and balance.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A world-class Pinot Gris that demonstrates just how serious the variety can be in the right hands. Powerful yet beautifully refined, it pairs superbly with roast pork, duck, foie gras, lobster, rich seafood dishes and aged cheeses. While already impressive, it will reward cellaring and should evolve gracefully through 2040 and beyond.
