The 2020 Mount Mary Vineyard Pinot Noir is a benchmark expression of Yarra Valley Pinot Noir from one of Australia’s most historically important cool-climate estates. Mount Mary’s original Pinot Noir material was sourced from western Victoria in 1971, before individual clonal selections became commonplace in Australia. Remarkably, a visiting French ampelographer later estimated that the original block contained more than 30 different Pinot Noir clones. Subsequent vineyard plantings were largely propagated from this original material, giving Mount Mary a distinctive and unusually diverse genetic heritage.
