The 2020 Mengoba Mencía Alicante Bouschet is a beautifully vibrant and characterful red from Bierzo, crafted by Grégory Pérez from old high-altitude vineyards planted on decomposed slate soils. Blending predominantly Mencía with Alicante Bouschet and small amounts of white field-blend varieties, the wine combines freshness, savoury complexity and mineral tension in a refined, minimal-intervention style. The nose reveals cherry, pomegranate and blackberry layered alongside violet, wild herbs and subtle earthy spice, giving the wine impressive lift and energy.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with silky tannins, bright natural acidity and beautifully pure dark berry fruit. Layers of cherry, plum and savoury spice are balanced by slatey minerality and gentle whole-bunch freshness, finishing vibrant, juicy and finely textured with excellent drinkability.
