The 2020 Albert Mann Riesling Furstentum Grand Cru comes from one of Alsace’s most revered Grand Cru vineyards, a steep limestone-rich hillside in Kientzheim renowned for producing Rieslings of exceptional power, precision and longevity. Farmed biodynamically by the Barthelmé family, the Furstentum vineyard is better known for Gewurztraminer, yet in great vintages it produces Riesling of remarkable mineral intensity and complexity.
The nose reveals ripe apricot, orange zest, lime, white peach and citrus blossom, layered with hints of petrol, wet stone and crushed rock minerality. The palate is concentrated yet beautifully focused, combining generous fruit with vibrant acidity and a long, saline finish. James Suckling awarded the wine 96 points, praising its ripe citrus and stone fruit character, while Vinous rated it 96 points for its depth, precision and ageing potential.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A magnificent Grand Cru Riesling that perfectly balances richness and tension. Powerful, mineral and exceptionally age-worthy, it pairs beautifully with lobster, scallops, roast pork, sushi, Thai cuisine and rich seafood dishes. Drinking impressively now with a decant, but it will continue to evolve gracefully through 2040 and beyond.
