The 2016 San Polo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Vignavecchia is the estate's flagship single-vineyard Brunello, crafted from 100% Sangiovese grown on a steep hillside in Montalcino. Aged for 30 months in French oak tonneaux followed by extended bottle maturation, it is a refined and age-worthy expression of one of Tuscany's greatest vintages. The nose reveals aromas of ripe cherry, wild berries and violet, layered with cedar, dried herbs and subtle spice.
On the palate, it is full-bodied with silky tannins, vibrant acidity and exceptional balance. Flavours of black cherry, plum and raspberry are complemented by hints of tobacco, liquorice and earthy minerality, leading to a long, elegant finish. Beautifully approachable with decanting, it also has the structure to cellar for 20 years or more.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding choice for collectors and lovers of premium Brunello. Pair it with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, slow-braised beef, venison, wild boar ragu or aged Pecorino.
