The 2014 Trimbach Cuvée Frédéric Emile Riesling is one of the benchmark dry Rieslings of Alsace, produced from approximately 45-year-old vines in the Grand Cru Geisberg and Osterberg vineyards overlooking Ribeauvillé. These south and south-east facing sites combine marl, limestone, sandstone and Muschelkalk soils, giving Frédéric Emile its characteristic power, intense minerality and extraordinary capacity to age. Fruit is strictly selected by hand, and Trimbach deliberately produces the wine in a dry, structured style. The estate considers Frédéric Emile one of its signature wines, with the best vintages capable of developing for 20 years or considerably longer.
The cooler 2014 vintage produced an especially precise and long-lived expression. It shows green apple, lime and grapefruit alongside nectarine, jasmine and lemon verbena, developing more complex notes of slate, smoke, brine and petrol with bottle age. The palate remains remarkably taut and energetic, with powerful acidity, concentrated citrus fruit and an intensely stony, saline finish. Critical reception was outstanding, including 96 Points from James Suckling, 95 Points from Wine Spectator, 94+ Points from Wine Advocate and 94+ Points from Vinous. Wine Spectator recommends drinking through 2039, while Wine Advocate and Vinous both regarded the wine as capable of developing for decades
