The 1989 Mont-Redon is a stunning example of this outstanding Châteauneuf-du-Pape vintage. The brilliant nose soars from the glass in a complex and classic blend of red and black raspberries, black cherries, a touch of menthol, game, cigar box, lovely spice tones, incipient autumnal tones and a superb base of soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and moderately tannic, with a great core of pure fruit, superb soil inflection, lovely focus and excellent length and grip on the classy finish. Just a lovely bottle of Châteauneuf and one of my favorites in the last couple of decades at Mont-Redon.
