The 2023 Künstler Hochheimer Kirchenstück GG Riesling Trocken is a magnificent VDP Grosses Gewächs from one of Hochheim's oldest and most celebrated vineyards, first recorded in 1271. The south-facing Kirchenstück vineyard combines limestone, loess and sandy soils to produce Rieslings of exceptional richness, elegance and mineral precision. Hand-harvested fruit is gently pressed and fermented in a combination of stainless steel and large old oak casks before resting on fine lees. The nose is beautifully layered, offering aromas of apricot, Mirabelle plum, pineapple and citrus blossom, intertwined with flint and chalky minerality. It was awarded 98 points by James Suckling.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with remarkable concentration, vibrant acidity and a finely textured, creamy mouthfeel. Ripe stone fruit and citrus are framed by powerful mineral tension and a long, saline finish that is both elegant and incredibly persistent. Rich yet impeccably balanced, this is a world-class Rheingau Riesling with outstanding ageing potential.
