The 2023 Dicey Bannockburn Gamay is a vibrant Central Otago Gamay from Bannockburn, crafted by the Dicey brothers from organically farmed vineyards on schist soils. The fruit was harvested in excellent condition, with 25% whole bunches included in the ferment and the balance destemmed. Fermentation was carried out with indigenous yeasts, followed by natural malolactic fermentation and maturation in seasoned oak to preserve freshness and vineyard character. The bouquet is bright and expressive, offering aromas of red cherry, raspberry and cranberry, layered with hints of violet, white pepper, fresh herbs and subtle earthy spice.
On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied with juicy red fruit, lively acidity and fine, powdery tannins. Flavours of wild strawberry, blackcurrant and tart cranberry are complemented by savoury herbal notes, gentle spice and a touch of whole-bunch complexity, leading to a long, fresh and energetic finish. The restrained use of old oak allows the purity of the fruit and the mineral character of Bannockburn to shine, resulting in a Gamay that is elegant, crunchy and beautifully balanced.
