The 2024 Domaine Saint-Damien Gigondas Les Souteyrades is a powerful Southern Rhône blend of approximately 80% Grenache and 20% Mourvèdre. The old vines grow on the lower terraces of Gigondas in grey, limestone-rich clay soils. Following an extended fermentation and maceration in large concrete vats, the wine matures for 12 months in seasoned foudres before being bottled without fining or filtration. Aromas of ripe blackberry, mulberry, strawberry and black raspberry mingle with violet, black pepper, garrigue and Provençal spice.
On the palate, it is concentrated, full-bodied and mouth-filling, with generous dark fruit balanced by impressive freshness. Firm, ripe tannins provide substantial structure, while pepper, dried herbs and earthy Mourvèdre notes add savoury complexity. Despite its power, the wine remains harmonious and energetic, finishing with excellent length and mineral definition.
