The 1999 Jim Barry The McRae Wood Shiraz is a mature Clare Valley Shiraz from South Australia, produced from a wine with deep roots in the history of the Barry family. In 1964, Jim Barry purchased 70 acres of land from Duncan McRae Wood in the Armagh Valley and planted Shiraz, establishing the vineyard that would ultimately give this wine its name. The McRae Wood label itself was created in 1992 as a premium Clare Valley Shiraz and has become one of Jim Barry's most recognised wines, sitting below the legendary Armagh while retaining the concentration and structure associated with mature, low-yielding Clare Valley Shiraz. The 1999 vintage was regarded as excellent, with a dry summer followed by well-timed rainfall immediately before harvest helping the vines achieve healthy, concentrated fruit.
