The 2024 Lark Hill Estate Sangiovese is a biodynamically grown Canberra District red from the Dark Horse Vineyard in Murrumbateman, planted on deep granite soils at around 600 metres elevation. The nose shows cherry and mulberry with redcurrant, wild herbs, cinnamon and clove, giving the wine a bright fruit profile with distinctly savoury Italian varietal character.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied and lively with fresh acidity, juicy red fruit and fine, chalky tannins. Sour cherry and mulberry are complemented by dried herbs, earthy notes and gentle spice, leading to a savoury, refreshing finish. Lark Hill’s biodynamic farming and minimal-intervention approach place an emphasis on vineyard expression and natural freshness.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Sangiovese drinkers who enjoy vibrant, savoury reds with bright acidity and moderate tannins. Enjoy now or cellar through around 2030. Pair with wood-fired pizza, tomato-based pasta, grilled lamb, charcuterie, mushroom dishes or an Australian barbecue.
