The 2023 Domaine Henri Germain Meursault Clos des Mouches Rouge is a rare and elegant Pinot Noir from the estate's Clos des Mouches Monopole in Meursault, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy. Planted in 1949 on a small enclosed vineyard bordering Volnay, this unique site produces one of Burgundy's most sought-after Meursault Rouge wines. Matured for 18–22 months in French oak, with only a modest proportion of new barrels, it opens with aromas of red cherry, Morello cherry, rose petals and gentle spice, complemented by subtle earthy notes and impressive purity.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with a satin-like texture, silky tannins and bright natural acidity. Flavours of fresh red berries, cherry and delicate spice are supported by a refined mineral backbone, leading to a long, elegant finish. The old-vine fruit and restrained oak ageing preserve the vineyard's finesse, making this a beautifully balanced Pinot Noir with excellent ageing potential.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an outstanding choice for Burgundy lovers seeking one of the rare red wines of Meursault. Pair it with roast pigeon, duck, veal, mushroom dishes or aged Comté. Enjoy after a gentle decant, or cellar for the next10–15 years as it develops greater savoury complexity and elegance.
