PICARDY

Picardy Winery is a family-owned boutique winery located in the Pemberton wine region of Western Australia, Australia — not to be confused with the French region of Picardy.

Picardy Winery was established in 1993 by Dr. Bill Pannell, his wife Sandra, and their son Daniel (Dan). The Pannell family were earlier pioneers in the Margaret River wine region, having founded Moss Wood winery in 1969 before creating Picardy to focus on cool-climate European-styled wines.

The estate is located in Pemberton, a cooler maritime climate region ideal for elegant and refined wines, and the winery emphasises estate-grown fruit from its own vineyards, sustainable vineyard management practices, dry-grown vines, cane pruning, and hand-picked harvests. The name Picardy was inspired by a region east of Paris and reflects the Pannell family’s respect for classical wine traditions.

Picardy produces a range of wines, including Pinot Noir (often their flagship), Chardonnay (crafted from Dijon clones for complexity), Sauvignon Blanc – Semillon, and Bordeaux-style blends (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc) along with occasional special releases. Many of these wines have earned high scores and praise from critics for their balance, structure and cool-climate character.

Wines are typically made with careful attention to capturing the fruit and terroir — such as slow ripening in cool conditions and measured oak influence — resulting in elegant, expressive bottles suited for both current enjoyment and aging.

In summary, Picardy Wines represent a respected Australian estate known for producing premium cool-climate wines rooted in tradition and technical precision, with a strong family legacy in quality winemaking.
