2023 Neudorf Rosie’s Block Moutere Chardonnay from Nelson is a beautifully layered and expressive cool-climate Chardonnay. The nose is aromatic and complex, showing guava, lime blossom and citrus zest, alongside white peach, nectarine and subtle flinty (gunflint) minerality. There are also hints of cashew, brioche and gentle oak spice, giving the wine both freshness and depth.
On the palate, it is textured, concentrated and finely balanced, offering flavours of stone fruit, lemon curd and citrus, supported by a creamy, lees-derived texture and vibrant acidity. The wine has real weight and shape, yet remains precise and mineral-driven, finishing long, savoury and elegant with a chalky, flinty edge.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a benchmark New Zealand Chardonnay — a wine that sits comfortably between Burgundy sophistication and New World generosity. It’s richer and more textured than entry-level Chardonnay, but still refined, mineral and highly drinkable. If a customer wants a Chardonnay that is premium, complex and clearly terroir-driven, this is a very strong recommendation. Perfect with lobster, scallops, roast chicken or creamy dishes, and capable of ageing 8–12+ years while gaining further nutty and savoury complexity.
