2023 Lionel Faury Saint-Joseph “La Gloriette” Vieilles Vignes is a classic Northern Rhône Syrah from old vines planted on granite soils in the northern part of Saint-Joseph. The nose is intensely aromatic and lifted, showing notes of black cherry, raspberry and currant, layered with violet, black pepper and subtle smoky/meaty nuances. There is also a distinctive savoury edge with hints of olive, fennel and mineral tones, reflecting the depth of old vines and terroir.
On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied yet concentrated, with a core of dark berry fruit, spice and graphite, supported by fine, structured tannins and bright acidity. The texture is both silky and energetic, with a peppery, mineral-driven finish that is long and precise. Compared to richer Rhône styles, this leans more toward freshness, tension and aromatic elegance, while still delivering depth and ageing potential.
