The 2022 Sciara 760 Metri Etna Rosso is a beautifully expressive volcanic red sourced from old bush vines planted between 730 and 770 metres above sea level on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. Crafted by Stef Yim, the wine is predominantly Nerello Mascalese with a small portion of Nerello Cappuccio, grown on organically farmed volcanic sand and rocky soils from the Contrada Sciaranuova and Taccione vineyards. Wild fermented with indigenous yeasts before spending 19 months maturing in a combination of wood, ceramic and glass vessels, the wine captures the remarkable purity and energy of this extraordinary terroir. The nose is intensely aromatic, revealing wild cherry, pomegranate and raspberry layered with dried rose petals, black tea, ironstone, volcanic ash, rosemary and delicate earthy spice.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with vibrant natural acidity, finely structured tannins and exceptional mineral precision. Bright red berry fruit is intertwined with savoury herbs, dried flowers and smoky volcanic notes, while the old vines lend impressive depth without sacrificing elegance. The finish is long, fresh and beautifully persistent, with a distinctive saline and mineral character that is unmistakably Etna. Graceful yet quietly powerful, this is a sophisticated expression of Nerello Mascalese that will continue to evolve beautifully with time in bottle.
