The 2023 Albert Mann Gewurztraminer Furstentum Grand Cru is sourced from the celebrated Furstentum vineyard in Alsace, a limestone-rich Grand Cru site renowned for producing some of the region’s finest Gewurztraminer. Farmed biodynamically by the Barthelmé family, this old-vine cuvée showcases the precision and elegance that have made Domaine Albert Mann one of Alsace’s benchmark estates.
The nose is remarkably refined for the variety, offering citrus blossom, peach, plum and subtle exotic spice rather than the overtly opulent style often associated with Gewurztraminer. The palate is richly textured yet vibrant, with layers of stone fruit, gentle sweetness and striking limestone-driven freshness carrying through a long, zesty finish. James Suckling awarded the wine 98 points, while Vinous scored it 96 points, praising its purity, balance and exceptional ageing potential.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A world-class Gewurztraminer that beautifully balances power, perfume and finesse. Complex and age-worthy, it pairs superbly with foie gras, roast pork, duck, spicy Asian cuisine, rich seafood dishes and washed-rind cheeses. While already captivating, it will reward patience and should evolve magnificently through 2040 and beyond.
