CHATEAU DE CHAMIREY
Château de Chamirey is a respected wine estate in the Mercurey appellation of Burgundy, France, with a legacy rooted in history and terroir-driven winemaking. The elegant château itself dates back to the early 18th century, built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the vineyards, and was later acquired in the early 1930s by the Marquis de Jouennes d’Herville. In 1934 the estate began bottling its own wines, marking the start of its modern winemaking tradition. Today the property is run by Amaury and Aurore Devillard, representing the fifth generation of the family’s involvement in Burgundy viticulture.
The estate’s vineyards cover about 37 hectares, including 15 hectares of Premier Cru sites, spread across some of Mercurey’s most esteemed climats such as Les Ruelles, Clos du Roi, En Sazenay, Champs-Martin and others. This sizeable holding within the Côte Chalonnaise gives Chamirey a wide diversity of soils and exposures to shape its wines.
Château de Chamirey produces both red and white Burgundies. The red wines are based on Pinot Noir, showing bright fruit, spice and elegant structure, with Premier Cru examples offering added depth and ageing potential. The white wines are made from Chardonnay, often noted for their freshness, citrus and floral notes, especially from Premier Cru parcels like La Mission. Hand harvesting, careful sorting and traditional Burgundian vinification methods help express the unique terroir of Mercurey in each cuvée.
In addition to its winemaking, Château de Chamirey is also a destination for wine lovers: visitors can enjoy tastings, cellar tours and walks through the vineyards at the historic estate, gaining insight into both the terroir and traditional Burgundian viticulture.
