The 2022 Dicey Bannockburn Chardonnay is a vibrant Central Otago Chardonnay from Dicey, sourced from the Inlet and Black Rabbit vineyards in Bannockburn. The fruit was hand-harvested in multiple passes, foot-trodden, whole-bunch pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak puncheons. The wine underwent 75% malolactic fermentation and spent 11 months in barrel, including 20% new oak, before being bottled unfined and filtered. The bouquet is expressive with aromas of citrus, yellow peach and pineapple, complemented by subtle brioche and gentle oak spice.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with a succulent, textural mouthfeel balanced by lively natural acidity. Flavours of ripe peach, pear, grapefruit and citrus are layered with hints of baking spice, toasted nuts and creamy lees complexity, finishing long with mineral precision and freshness. The warm yet balanced 2022 growing season produced pristine fruit, while restrained oak and partial malolactic fermentation add richness without compromising the wine's vibrant Bannockburn character.
Ben's Recommendation: At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for customers who enjoy elegant, cool-climate Chardonnay with vibrant fruit, creamy texture and refined complexity. Pair it with roast chicken, grilled lobster, seared scallops, creamy mushroom pasta or mature Comté cheese. Drinking beautifully now, it will continue to evolve over the next5–8 years, developing greater richness and complexity while retaining its signature freshness.
