The 2023 Domaine Matrot Maranges Vieilles Vignes Rouge is a characterful red Burgundy made from old-vine Pinot Noir in Maranges, at the southern end of the Côte de Beaune. The nose shows red cherry, strawberry and darker berries with rose petals, subtle spice and a smoky, earthy undertone.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with bright acidity, concentrated cherry and red berry fruit and fine, powdery tannins. The fruit is fully destemmed and naturally fermented before 15 months on lees in oak, with only 10% new barrels, followed by three months in stainless steel. The finish is fresh, savoury and persistent.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Pinot Noir drinkers who enjoy fresh, savoury Burgundy with fine tannins and old-vine concentration. Enjoy from around 2026 through 2033 and pair with roast duck, roast chicken, pork, mushroom dishes or charcuterie.
