The 2023 Domaine Matrot Blagny Premier Cru La Pièce Sous Le Bois is a distinctive red Burgundy made from Pinot Noir grown high on the Meursault hillside. The vineyard’s limestone-rich soils give the wine a mineral edge, while the nose shows black cherry, blackberry and plum with spice and subtle earthy notes.
On the palate, it is medium-to-full bodied with fresh dark fruit, balanced acidity and rounded, energetic tannins. The grapes are fully destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts before 15 months in oak, including 20% new barrels, followed by three months in tank. The finish is long, fresh and mineral-driven.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Burgundy drinkers who enjoy structured Pinot Noir with dark fruit, fine tannins and limestone-driven freshness. Drinking from around 2026, it has excellent potential to develop through the 2030s. Pair with roast duck, beef, lamb, mushroom dishes or game birds.
