The 2023 Domaine Matrot Auxey-Duresses Rouge is a refined Burgundy Pinot Noir from a cool, elevated site between Meursault and Monthélie. Made from vines averaging around 35 years old, it shows blackberry, red cherry and redcurrant with delicate florals, dried earth and subtle savoury notes.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied with bright acidity, fresh red and dark berry fruit and fine, textured tannins. The fruit is fully destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts before 15 months in oak, including around 20% new barrels, followed by three months in stainless steel. The finish is fresh, earthy and finely structured.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Pinot Noir drinkers who enjoy elegant red Burgundy with fresh fruit, fine tannins and savoury complexity. Enjoy now with some air or cellar over the next several years as the tannins soften. Pair with roast duck, grilled beef, roast chicken, mushroom dishes or charcuterie.
