The 2019 Lucien Le Moine Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru Champ Canet is a serious 100% Chardonnay from one of Puligny-Montrachet's most highly regarded Premier Cru vineyards. Champ Canet sits on the upper-middle slope of Puligny, adjoining Meursault Premier Cru Perrières, and is prized for combining Puligny's characteristic mineral precision with greater richness and depth. Lucien Le Moine itself is one of Burgundy's most distinctive micro-négociant houses, founded by Mounir Saouma and Rotem Brakin in 1999. Rather than producing large quantities, the maison specialises almost entirely in Premier Cru and Grand Cru Burgundy, purchasing tiny quantities of exceptional young wines and carrying out the élevage in its Beaune cellar.
The warm but beautifully balanced 2019 Burgundy vintage gives this Champ Canet impressive concentration without sacrificing the mineral backbone expected from Puligny. The wine shows ripe peach, apricot and citrus alongside hazelnut, butter, subtle spice and stony minerality. The palate is dense and powerful, yet the richness is cut by excellent acidity and a pronounced mineral line, leading to an exceptionally persistent finish.
