The 2022 Lethbridge Shiraz is a single-vineyard wine sourced from Block 6 at the estate’s Moorabool Valley vineyard, one of the coolest sites in Geelong. Inspired by the great Syrahs of the Northern Rhône and Victoria’s Craiglee, Ray Nadeson and Maree Collis have crafted a refined, cool-climate expression of Shiraz, fermented with whole bunches and matured in French oak to emphasise complexity and site character.
The nose shows black cherry, blackberry, violet, spice and dark chocolate with savoury notes of herbs, pepper and woodsmoke. Medium-bodied and beautifully structured, the palate combines pure dark fruit with silky tannins, bright acidity and impressive length. Richard Hemming MW awarded the wine 18.5/20, while Campbell Mattinson scored it 94 points, praising its savoury complexity, freshness and distinctive style.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A superb cool-climate Shiraz that leans towards the elegance of Syrah rather than the richness of traditional Barossa styles. Complex, savoury and highly food-friendly, it pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck, beef, game meats and mushroom dishes. Enjoy now with a decant or cellar confidently through 2032–2035.
