The 2022 Champagne Laherte Frères Les Vignes d'Autrefois is a distinctive Blanc de Noirs made from old-vine Meunier grown in the historic Les Vignes d’Autrefois parcels around Chavot and Mancy. The vines, planted in the 1940s and 1950s, produce naturally low yields and concentrated fruit, while the chalk, clay and flint soils bring freshness and mineral definition. The 2022 shows red apple, raspberry and redcurrant alongside pear, blood orange, dried flowers, subtle spice and delicate brioche. Disgorged in December 2025, the wine has gained additional depth and texture from extended lees ageing.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied and beautifully textured, with vibrant acidity, fine persistent bubbles and layers of red and orchard fruit. Red apple, raspberry and redcurrant are complemented by pear, blood orange and citrus peel, while subtle floral, spice and savoury notes add complexity through the mid-palate. The old Meunier vines give the wine impressive concentration and a vinous, supple texture, while the mineral character provides tension and length. Gentle brioche, nutty and toasted notes emerge as it opens, leading to a dry, long and persistent finish.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for Champagne drinkers who enjoy structured, vinous Blanc de Noirs with old-vine depth, fine texture and savoury complexity. The 2022 vintage is drinking beautifully now but has enough acidity, fruit concentration and mineral structure to develop further brioche, nutty and earthy character with bottle age. Best enjoyed over the next 6–10 years. Serve chilled with smoked trout, roast quail with mushrooms, seared scallops, pork terrine, roast chicken with herbs, or aged Comté and other mature hard cheeses.
