The 2022 G.D. Vajra Barolo Bricco delle Viole is a single-vineyard Nebbiolo from one of Barolo’s highest sites, rising from 400 to 480 metres. Old vines planted in 1931, 1949 and 1968 produce a highly aromatic style, showing violet, wild rose, strawberry and red cherry with mint, fennel, subtle truffle and crushed-stone notes.
On the palate, it is concentrated yet elegant, with bright acidity, refined tannins and layers of cherry, red berries and citrus. A long 49-day maceration followed by 22 months in large Slavonian oak casks builds structure without overwhelming the Nebbiolo fruit. The finish is persistent, savoury and mineral-driven.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is a great choice for Barolo collectors and Nebbiolo drinkers who enjoy floral aromatics, fine tannins and serious ageing potential. Enjoy with decanting when young or cellar for further development. Pair with truffle risotto, braised beef, roast lamb, mushroom dishes or aged cheeses.
