The 2017 Domaine de Montille Pommard Premier Cru Les Rugiens-Bas is a powerful and age-worthy expression of one of Pommard’s greatest terroirs. Rugiens is divided between Rugiens-Hauts and the more highly regarded Rugiens-Bas, where iron-rich red clay contributes exceptional colour, structure and mineral intensity. Domaine de Montille is the largest landholder in Rugiens-Bas, with two parcels totalling approximately 1.02 hectares, and the vineyard has played an important role in establishing the domaine’s reputation. The late Hubert de Montille was particularly attached to this wine, and the domaine considers Rugiens-Bas a Premier Cru possessing the texture, depth and longevity normally associated with Grand Cru Burgundy.
