The 2009 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a luxurious blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot from Pauillac on Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, Pichon Comtesse has built its reputation on combining Pauillac’s structure and depth with an especially supple, elegant texture. Its gravel soils over clay and sand, close to the Gironde Estuary, provide the foundation for this distinctive style. The 2009 features a particularly high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon for the estate, bringing definition and ageing potential to the vintage’s generous fruit.

Expect blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe plum, layered with graphite, tobacco, mocha and earthy complexity. The wine combines a rich, enveloping palate with polished tannins and the freshness needed to carry its concentration. Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW awarded it 97+ Points for The Wine Advocate in 2019, highlighting its layered dark fruit, fine tannins and lively finish. She reaffirmed that assessment with 97+ Points for The Wine Independent in 2022, noting plush texture and considerable remaining potential. Jeb Dunnuck awarded 95 Points in 2022, praising its aromatic complexity, generous mid-palate and graceful capacity to develop further.
