The Kilkerran 12 Year Old Single Malt Whisky is a characterful Campbeltown whisky produced at Mitchell’s Glengyle Distillery. Lightly peated and matured in 70% bourbon and 30% sherry casks, it is bottled at 46% ABV. The nose opens with Turkish delight, pear drops and marzipan, followed by gentle peat smoke reminiscent of toasted marshmallows over a campfire.
On the palate, it is oily, textured and distinctly Campbeltown in style. Bright notes of lemon cheesecake develop into leather-bound books, peppery spice and sticky toffee pudding. Subtle peat smoke provides structure without dominating, carrying through to a lingering finish of glowing campfire embers, pecan pie and butterscotch.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent introduction to traditional Campbeltown whisky, offering an impressive balance of citrus, confectionery sweetness, oily texture and restrained peat. Enjoy neat or add a few drops of water to reveal more fruit and sweetness. Ideal as an after-dinner dram or alongside mature cheddar, toasted nuts, caramel desserts or dark chocolate.
