A vibrant and playful expression of Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) from Bryan Martin, sourced from 30-year-old vines in Young. Made in tiny quantities after a long hiatus, the wine focuses on freshness and energy rather than the heavy, jammy style often associated with the variety. The nose shows blackberry, plum and raspberry alongside spice, nougat, dried fig and subtle chocolate notes. There’s a lifted savoury edge and bright aromatic freshness that keeps everything lively and balanced.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied, juicy and supple with dark berry fruit, soft tannins and bright acidity carrying through the finish. Plush and generous without feeling heavy, with plenty of spice and drinkability.
Ben’s Recommendation:
A fun, energetic modern Australian Primitivo that avoids the usual overripe style. Best served slightly chilled and perfect with pizza, BBQ, burgers or casual shared food. Drink now through 2030+.
