The 2024 Ochota Barrels x Gentle Folk Father’s Milk is a rare Adelaide Hills collaboration between Ochota Barrels and Gentle Folk, blending Gamay from the Virgara Vineyard in Piccadilly with Pinot Noir from Monomeith in Ashton. Both high-altitude sites sit on quartz over sandstone, producing a fragrant red with soft red berries, cherry and cranberry alongside floral notes, savoury spice and an intriguing amaro-like herbal character.
On the palate, it is light and energetic with juicy red fruit, fresh acidity and fine, gently structured tannins. The fruit was fermented as 100% whole bunches in an open-top fermenter for two weeks before basket pressing, then matured for 13 months in neutral French oak. Only 880 bottles were produced from the tiny 2024 harvest.
Ben’s Recommendation:
At Wine More Cellars, this is an excellent choice for customers who enjoy light, fragrant Adelaide Hills reds with juicy fruit, savoury spice and whole-bunch complexity. Best served at cellar temperature or lightly chilled. Ideal with roast duck, charcuterie, grilled chicken, mushroom dishes, pork or antipasto.
